The World Celebrates Rabbi Marcia Prager

Rabbi Marcia Prager, an inspirational Jewish Renewal spiritual leader, teacher, guide, and colleague, has become a model for a new generation of lay and professional leadership. Through her, many of us have forged an intimate, passionate relationship with Judaism, with the divine in all of us, and thus, with each other.

The P'nai Or Philadelphia Jewish Renewal community is grateful that in 5772 (2011) R. Marcia celebrated 18 years of serving as our Rabbi-Chaver. In her honor, friends from around the world shared these many stories, poems, and loving tributes, to show our gratitude and naches at this wonderful milestone!

May All the Mystery Open for You

The Mystery of of the ALEPH-BET video (yes, video) sits next to me. Reb Marcia's note to me on the cover, "May all the mystery open for you, Andrea." And how the mysteries opened. Less than a decade later, fall 2006, I found myself on the phone with Reb Marcia sharing my story and telling her I wanted to apply to the rabbinic program.

And here I am, the mysteries continuing to unfold, a rabbinic student in ALEPH, worlds I didn't know existed opening to me. With gratitude that the Shekhinah has come to reside in so many along this journey, particularly in Reb Marcia's wisdom to me, from brief moments and longer ones (DLTI, Smicha Week, Ruach Ha'Aretz) along the way.

To all those times, including the one when I called before Yom Kippur and unexpectedly poured my heart out, to the mysteries yet to open before me on this journey, thank you.

In love and Gratitude. Yonina Andrea Foster, Ph.D.
ALEPH rabbinic student
